Food for thought 2

Let me tell you about a Chinese fable, it was believed that a particular kingdom was richly blessed with gold and precious stones. They were so rich that their precious jewels were like mere substance to them kids could be playing with diamonds. If probably they made use of grinding stone gold would have been used for it. Surrounding kingdoms wanted their treasures and always mounted attacks on them. It got to the point they could not take it anymore. a wise man was summoned to give his advise, he advised the villagers to find a cave to store their treasures and train a dragon to guard it. They heeded and found a baby dragon and a cave, they began storing all their treasures in the gave and feeding the dragon. They wanted the dragon to grow so quick that they had to overfeed him daily. As the dragon grew so did they treasure grow immensely. Before they knew it the dragon grew so big that it covered the cave with its mouth at the entrance. They found out that they could not tame the dragon who was spitting flames on intruders and the villagers. In the end they lost all their treasures as the dragon could not be killed or chased out of the cave.

You may ask why I told you that tale. Our country was amalgamated to what it is today from various kingdoms, people, cultures and religions. It was forged from a region where everybody was territorial. They all knew and respected each others boundaries and culture. Colonialism was supposed to bring about civilization and unification. Little did the colonial masters know that they were designing a time bomb that was to detonate in due time. In unity our independence was won and it was not as bloody as that of the United States of America. Everyone was happy and they imagined a great nation in the nearest future one that could rival any other developed nation. Now ask yourself did they make a terrible mistake. Was it greed that made them chase away the whites. Was Nigeria really ready to be independent. From what you and I see today you will know it is sad to say we should have waited a little more.

You can blame our predicament on anyone, on me, you or the government we all are to be blamed. I want to say this why didn't they colonize us separately and respect the fact that we are different. You can never mix fire with fuel and expect it to cool off. From the onset they knew what would happen yet they forcefully merge my people. People who traded amongst themselves peacefully and went on with their lives with no conflicts. if you check the geography of Nigeria you will see the width of the River Niger and Benue so you know that they served as boarders to the South and North. You could distinguish every tribe because they all had distinctive physical features.  You can distinguish a Northerner from a Southerner easily you can still do that till date.

Religion might be what most of people think the problem is, it might be one of the reasons but if you study deeper you will find out it is territorial. Stories from the civil war and coups that have taken place will give you an insight of what we are facing. Everyone was to rule and no one wants to be lead. If we all rule and refuse to follow how do we execute the office of a ruler without knowing the golden rule or leadership is followership. We witnessed events that confirms what this all about comments from prominent people that are suppose to uphold out unity tend to quake the very foundation of it with words that would incite violence and war. I refuse to be psyched or used as a politician's thug. Only a fool will give a way a farmland for a barn of yams.

Poverty is another vice that has come to hunt this nation. You see convoy of the people you have voted in power when you do the maths you get to know the worth o the vehicles could take care of the needs of the people in a Ward. Security is important I know if you do what is right you don't need to worry about the people. Before elections thugs are empowered with firearms and motivated with money to execute the wishes of the so called Messiahs. What happened to the Poverty Alleviation Program are we to say Nigerians are living above poverty. Is it true that everyone can afford three square meals a day. Poverty will never end as long as we living in a country where some people amass wealth that could settle the country's debt or facilitate the development we all hope for.

Kids are told stories of their heroes about men who died for the actualization of the future they are now part of. Here you get to read about tribalism and every one has something negative to say about the other tribe. An Okene man once told me that an Igala man eats with both hands and legs signifying how greedy he is. Imagine what the Igala man has to say about an Okene man. It happens in every part of the country we have never loved each other. I was once told that Esan people are not good to be trusted and same goes to the Binis. Igbos don't recognize the Delta Igbos as Igbos because they say the real Igbos are found across the Niger bridge. How do we move from the wilderness when we cant agree for one. The National Confab reveals how divided our nation is. Issues are treated on ethnical bases and those it doesn't support always oppose. We cant always love each other we can always pretend to and in that pretense it becomes a reality. For example if you find yourself marrying who you don't love with time you get to start loving that same person, you tend to find good things in him or her. We have been together for over 100 years now and still we are still fighting when do we intend to be united. I may not live to see that day but there will be a smile on my face wherever I am when I see an Hausa fighting to defending the rights of an Igbo man.

Education is the key to a nation's growth. It is the tree where ideas grow from. If you take a closer look into our education system you find that over the years there has been no upgrade. I wrote an engineering cause without carrying out any practical  yet I earned a B in it. Students are too at lecturers comfort some don't attend classes yet they pass out with the best results. Americans are trained to love and respect their country because it started from the grass root. We all share the blame and we may or may not admit it. Illiteracy is one the biggest set back to our continent. We lost so much history and we have been backwards in our race to meet up with the rest. Imagine if we have been educated from the beginning there wont be any reason for us to be colonized. It would have been a lot easier to repel them. This Boko Haram terror would have being curtailed before now if the government spent more in education and enforced it. You cant come up to me and tell me to kill myself for money. Enlightenment can only come through education and this will repel stop the way our people are deceived by those who pretend to know more.

Religion is the mother of our problems. It amazes me when you see Africans killing themselves because of religion. Don't we realize that it was borrowed and in most cases forced on us. Every man has a freedom of religion, as long as you don't impose yours on mine then we will be fine. Dominance and extremism comes in to play when overzealous scholars or preachers tend to use to confuse believers and make them jihadists. It took a lot of bloodshed to finally impose both beliefs from the days of Jesus Christ who was killed because the Jews felt He was a blasphemer after His resurrection and ascension so many disciples were martyred because of their faith. It took miracles and conversion of kings who later became the imposers of the religion on people they believe to be heathens. It hurts me when I read in the news about killings carried out by the Boko Haram because in the end you are taking the lives of innocent people who are believers like you. No man has the right to kill you only kill what you create. Who will welcome you in Paradise and what will you say are your accomplishments that you killed millions in the name of God.

In the end the west should blamed. Where do they get their weapons from we all know there are no Africans were not the ones that invented guns or sophisticated weapons that could cause so much havoc to innocent people. It is not easy fighting terrorism in a world where people rather make profits than spare lives. There are so many guns in the world today that we all have to hope and pray rapture comes before we end up on the wrong side of the barrel. The guns and the bombs used to carry out this attacks are not from here and the people who know these manufacturers want to help us fight terror. Take out the dirt in your eyes before you blow your neighbor's eyes. It is simple guns in the wrong hands lead to what we are facing now.
