Carlos Tevez 'pays ransom' to free father from kidnap ordeal
The Argentine striker had spoken to his father on the phone to ensure he had not been harmed before he handed the ransom to the kidnappers.
An elite anti-kidnap squad had helped the Tevez family after the kidnapped man's daughter in-law received two threatening calls from the perpetrators.
The 30-year-old had scheduled an emergency flight to Buenos Aires from Italy, where he plays, when he heard his father had been held captive. But he cancelled the journey once he learnt his adoptive father had been released.
Family lawyer Gustavo Galasso confirmed: "Secundo is okay".
It emerged last night the culprits kidnapped their victim after robbing him and realising he was the footballer's dad when they checked his documents.
The elder Tevez had raised the Juventus star since he was five when his biological father was shot dead.
Buenos Aires governor Daniel Scioli, a personal friend of the footballer’s, said: "It was a spur-of the-moment thing.
"They’d let him go but saw his surname on his ID card and snatched him again.
"We’re going to try to catch them and jail them.
"I’ve spoken with Carlos. He was going to travel to Argentina but when he heard the good news he decided to stay in Italy."
Earlier this year the striker expressed his admiration for his adoptive father in a poignant Twitter message on his birthday.
He tweeted: "You showed me how to be a man.
"My sadness is yours and my achievements your satisfaction. I love you old man. Happy birthday."
The former West Ham player is said to send his adopted father money every month and paid for his other children to watch at the 2010 World Cup.
