Police nab leader of Ondo petrol station robbers
Detectives in Ondo State, weekend, arrested the leader of a five-member robbery gang who robbed a filling station in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The filling station which is located at Km 5 Akure/Owo expressway was invaded by the gang at about 4pm.
Vanguard gathered that the leader of the gang, Abraham Haruna, of 15, FCE Street, Okene, Kogi State was arrested following a distress call to the Oba Ile Police station.
On the receipt of the information, the Policemen mobilised to the scene and on sighting the policemen, the suspects fled into nearby bush.
Police source said they were given a hot chase and following a thorough search, the leader of the gang was arrested .
When he was searched, N41,000 and one mobile phone were recovered from him.
However, the manager of the robbed filling station, Adedeji Olarewaju, told newsmen that the robbers snatched N151,000 from the pump attendant.
Olarewaju said in a bid to escape, the leader of the gang shot sporadically into the air.
In another development, two suspected motorcycle thieves, Monday Gabriel and Segun Olawale, of 15, Damusegun Street, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State have been arrested in Igbara Oke area of the state.
They were arrested by a patrol team in Igbara Oke Division while they were en-route Ibuji/Igbara Odo road.
Contacted, the Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the arrest of the suspect who led the robbers to the filling station in Akure. Ogodo said efforts were on to track down the fleeing suspects.
He also said the suspects who stole motorcycle had confessed that the motorcycle was stolen from Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, Oyo State, adding that the suspects and exhibit will soon be transferred to Oyo State where the case had earlier been reported.
