Angel di Maria arrives at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground

Real Madrid midfielder Angel di Maria has arrived at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground as a new British record transfer appears certain to be set this week.

The Argentina star will cost a fee of around £59.7m, according to the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, £9.7m more than the current British record set when Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011.

Di Maria will undergo a medical tomorrow, but personal terms are already near completion and the Red Devils hope to make a formal announcement tomorrow.

The former Benfica player cost £29m when Real signed him in 2010 and he has won one league title, two Copa del Reys and one Champions League in his time at the Bernabeu.

He has 52 caps for his country but missed the World Cup final through injury this summer.
