THE CURSE OF THE BALLON D' OR

 
I know most of you might be plundering on the meaning of this article. Do you know that only Roberto Baggio and Ronaldo De Lima are the only two players that have reached the finals of the Fifa world cup as Fifa World Best Players. In 1993 Roberto Baggio's Italy Team lost the World Cup final to Romario's Brazil Team on penalties . Romario Later became the World Best Player for that year. In 1998 the Ronaldo became the youngest player to have won the FIFA World Best Player consecutively. Ronaldo led Brazil lost the final to  Zidane led France with three unreplied goals, Zidane became the World Best Player in 1998.
 Luis Figo came to the 2002 World cup as the World Best Player, him and his Portugese team failed. Ronaldo won the World Cup and also became the tournament's highest goal scorer. He later won the FIFA Best Player for 2002.  Ronaldinho became the second Brazilian to  win the FIFA World Best Player in 2004 and 2005. He lead the Brazilian squad to the 2006 World Cup, he was subdued by the brilliance of Zidane and Brazil crashed out of the Semis that year. Canavaro later won the award that year and became the only defender to have won the award.

Messi won the FIFA World Best Player by beating Cristiano Ronaldo on every category. He was so good that everyone tipped the maestro's lead Argetina squad to win the cup. Him and his team were brushed aside the Germans by four unreplied goals. After emerging as the World Best Player for four consecutive times, he lost his throne to Cristiano Ronaldo.

This year's World Cup has been intriguing seeing the likes of Spain, England,Italy and the Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal  failing to progress through the group stage. Cristiano Ronaldo who has been suffering from injuries lead his country anyway to the World cup and crashed out. Messi after breaking the jinx of not been able to lead his country to football's greatest stage did it last night by taking them to the Finals. He is only 90 minutes away to become the greatest player to ever play the game. He should realize that there has been a curse and a gift behind the award which now being call FIFA BALLON D'OR.
