Five churches in Kwajaffa, Tashan Alade and other surrounding communities in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno have  allegedly  been set ablaze by suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram.  Hawul local government area, in the southern part of troubled Borno state is predominantly Christian.
It shares borders with Garkida town of Adamawa state, another Northeastern state of Nigeria which  is under emergency rule as well as both Borno and Yobe.  Garkinda was only last Sunday attacked  during which  two soldiers and three civilians  were killed while  a police station  was set ablaze by the terrorist group.

The high rate of insurgency attack in the area was part of the reasons for  setting of insurgency camps around Zhur, Pelachiroma and Kwajaffa hills and valleys.

It was gathered from a member of the local vigilante in Maiduguri, Hassan Ibrahim that  the  Boko Haram militants invaded the affected communities on Wednesday in the night targeting only churches using Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs on them which caused  heavy explosion.

It was also gathered that the gunmen after destroying the churches told some communities members that their next target is to go and set ablaze the Hawul Local Government Headquarters Secretariat.

Ibrahim said though no live was lost, the gunmen operated freely without confrontation from either residents or security operatives.
Speaking to journalists, the Caretaker Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area, Dr. Andrew Usman Malgwi confirmed the burning of churches in some of the communities in the area.

He also said the insurgents were said to have handed down a threat that with  "the Council Secretariat will be their next target."
He explained that the insurgents have now shifted their deadly attacks and destruction to Hawul, and therefore called on the Government and security agencies to immediately deploy troops to safeguard lives and property of innocent citizenry.
